Postdoctoral/Research Faculty PositionsVanderbilt University - ,
Job Open: 28-Sep-2009   Job Close: 01-Feb-2010
Postdoctoral/Research Faculty Positions in Solution NMR Structural Biology of Large Modular Proteins Laboratory of Walter J. Chazin, Vanderbilt University (1) Regulation of human cardiac Na+ channels and origin of cardiac arrhythmias (2) Multi-protein DNA replication, damage response and repair machinery These positions provide excellent opportunities to both hone NMR skills on exciting high profile protein systems while also providing opportunities to learn new structural biology techniques including X-ray scattering, X-ray crystallography and computational modeling. Both research programs incorporate multi-disciplinary biological and medical studies and routinely produce publications in a range of high profile journals. Project 1 is directed to understanding the structural basis for calcium dependent regulation of gating of the human cardiac sodium channel NaV1.5, and the origin of cardiac arrhythmias in patients with mutations in the regulatory apparatus. Project 2 involves studies of the structure and dynamics of large multi-domain proteins (e.g. replication protein A, DNA primase, XPC) and protein and DNA complexes within DNA replication, damage response and repair machines. The Vanderbilt Center for Structural Biology has outstanding instrumentation in all areas, including a soon to be installed 900 as well as 800, 600 and 500 MHz NMR spectrometers equipped with cryoprobes. Applicants are expected to work well with graduate students and will be encouraged to develop their leadership potential. Send CV and a reference list via e-mail to: walter.chazin@vanderbilt.edu. Vanderbilt University is an equal opportunity employer.
